Takeru was born into his family as the second son. His older brother, Yamato, was four years older than him and instantly became an idol of sorts to the younger boy. When TK was two years old, he and his brother saw their first Digimon. From their balcony, they watched the grand Greymon and Parrotmon battle, and it was that incident that pegged them both as Chosen Children. Six years later, TK would be the only one to remember this battle until his jogs the others’ memories.

It was shortly after that incident, that their parents began to argue more and more incessantly. Their arguing soon led to divorce, which sent TK with his mother and Yamato with their father. While TK was still a bit too young to understand what was going on, he definitely understood the loneliness he began to feel without his brother. He covered this up with constant crying and whining, hoping to gain attention that he was suddenly lacking.

When TK ended up at the same summer camp as his brother, he was thrilled, and he was even happier when he got zipped away to the Digital World with him and met his new best friend, Patamon. Even as the youngest Chosen Child, he was fairly independent, refusing to accept Yamato’s attempts to protect and coddle him (as he always assumed that he being a bother). He was the first to suffer the loss of a Digimon. When Patamon digivolved to Angemon, he used all of his strength to defeat Devimon and, in turn, sacrificed himself as well. Not knowing what happened to a Digimon after it was destroyed, TK thought he had lost his best friend forever. Even when Patamon returned in the form of a Digi-Egg, the young boy never forgot.

Not long after, TK was granted with the Crest of Hope, due to his innocent heart. After Tai, TK was the first to get his crest to glow but it did not activate until the final battle with Piedmon. After retrieving Kari (who quickly became TK’s best friend) from the real world, the Chosen Children worked their way up Spiral Mountain where they eventually faced off against Piedmon who turned each of the kids and Digimon into key chains until only TK, Kari, and Patamon were left. Urged on by Sora’s words telling him to protect Kari and Matt’s voice in his head, he was able to activate his crest and get Angemon to digivolve into MagnaAngemon and save the Chosen Children.

After the final battle with Apocalymon, the Digital World was ‘sealed’ and the kids were forced to return home. When TK was ten, his mom’s job forced them to move away from his new friends and he did not see them again until two years later. The day after his return, he was thrust back into the Digital World where he was later given the Digi-Egg of Hope. It is during this time that old memories of losing his partner to darkness begin to resurface. These dark thoughts form two faces of TK. The kind and cheery TK and the fierce and serious TK. Besides when he is faced with the powers of darkness, the only time this fierce and serious TK emerges is when he is reminded of his deepest desire that will never happen: to have his family be whole again.
